Introducing DRD Marine Services Ltd
DRD Marine Services Ltd, formally Drew Marine Services Ltd. (DMS) was established in 2018 and is owned and operated by David R. Drew.
DMS offers independent consultancy services focused on, but not limited to the following areas:
- Specialisation in the subsea cable sector – ship design, construction, conversion and cable installation equipment market sector.
- Project management – new build vessels, conversion projects, upgrades, specialised equipment build projects etc.
- Marine Warranty Survey services as surveyor and project management.
- Insurance / Legal based services: Marine Casualty and Incident investigation, P&I entry, Expert & Factual witness etc.
- Vessel Assurance Services – surveys and inspections – condition, suitability, and pre-purchase etc.
- Vessel management / operation
- Mission Critical Systems analysis, FMEA, FMECA, RAM Analysis for, systems included but are not limited to: – Dynamic Positioning, Cranes, Ballast, ROV & LARS, Gangway, Tensioners etc.
- Marine Engineering – an in-depth knowledge of the selection, operation & maintenance of highly diverse equipment types
Since inception DMS has worked for clients providing a variety of services. Primarily the company has been contracted to work on providing solutions for power and fibre optic cable installation, subsea equipment builds, vessel conversions and vessel operations.
The work conducted has been led by David Drew with the support of a group of subcontractors. This places DMS in an important / unique position in the power and fibre optic cable ship (build & operation) / cable installation market. DMS providing an interface management function between, vessel and specialised equipment suppliers whilst at the same time understanding subsea cable installation requirements and providing operational support for the vessel once completed.

Career Profile for David Drew (Marine Engineer / Project Manager)
DMS is owned and operated by David Drew. During his career he has been fortunate enough to have gained a wide variety experience in the marine industry with over 40 years of experience. Since establishing DMS David has returned to his sea going and vessel build / conversion roots working in the subsea cable sector.
In the time when he was not working in cable industry David has worked in a variety of marine consultancies for 12 years, based in the UAE for more than 11 years. During time in consultancy, has worked for BMT Salvage (formally the Salvage Association), Noble Denton / GL Noble Denton (GLND), Global Maritime (GM), and latterly Sphere Offshore Marine Services / Rigmar. In November 2019 set up Drew Marine Services Ltd.
In July 2014 was promoted General Manager for GM in the UAE and in April 2015 further promoted to Middle East Regional Managing Director, Middle East. In September 2017 took the role of Chief Operations Officer at GM whilst also assuming the role of Regional MD for Europe and maintaining my role in the Middle East.
As Chief Operating Officer (GM) had global responsibility for the management and direction of Global Maritime’s Business Streams. As Regional Managing Director I had responsibility for delivery of P&L performance whilst at the same time meeting strategic objectives for growth with further responsibility for the over development of the GM business development.
Before working as a Marine Consultant worked in a variety of other areas in the marine industry including, Ship Operations and Superintendence, in both the UK and Far East, the UK MOD and Project Management of vessel new build, conversions and large equipment item builds representing owners and as a shipyard project manager.
During seagoing career sailed at all engineering ranks including Chief Engineer.
